Meet my Mother

My Mother

Put it into your heart, my smallest child,

that the thing that frightened you,

the thing that afflicted you is nothing:

Do not let it disturb you...

Am I not here,

I who am your mother?

Are you not under my shadow and protection?

Am I not the source of your joy?

Are you not in the hollow of my mantle,

in the crossing of my arms?

Do you need something more?

I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; They will strike at your head, while you strike at their heel. Genesis 3:15

When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. John 19: 26-27

A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
Revelation 12:1

Since Christians are the mystical body of Christ, Mary became our mother, too, at the Annunciation. (CCC, 973).

Devotion to you, O Blessed Virgin, is a means of salvation which God gives to those whom he wishes to save. (St. John Damascene, source: Treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin).
